Wildlife Sites in Rushcliffe

Great Central Railway

How to get there:

There is no public access to the GCR which is an active railway other than at the stations (or by taking a trip). However the Rushcliffe Halt station has Grizzled Skippers visible from the platforms during May.

Information:

The long disused Great Central Railway running north from Loughborough to Ruddington is now active again with trains running from the Transport Heritage Centre next to Rushcliffe Country Park to Rushcliffe Halt and commercial British Gypsum trains using the track south of East Leake. The sidings area next to the heritage centre and the track south of Rushcliffe Halt station (at East Leake) south almost to Loughborough are of interest especially for their butterflies and moths with the latter section being of extreme importance for the survival of the Grizzled Skipper in Nottinghamshire.
