Wildlife Sites in Rushcliffe

Borders Wood

How to get there:

There is a bridleway running through the wood from the sharp bend in the lane between Kinoulton and Owthorpe (Herrywell Lane) though this has been diverted since the dualling of the A46 so it is now necessary to walk north to the Cotgrave - Owthorpe road and return alongside the northbound carriageway to cross the A46. As compensation there is a new footpath through the wood which links to the existing footpath that formerly ran from Wolds Farm (though this too now requires a lengthy diversion).

Information:

This Local Wildlife Site (LWS) is used for shooting. The rides host Broad-leaved Helleborine and there are wet clearings with stands of Wood Small-reed and both Borrer's Male-fern and Scaly Male-fern. Silver-washed Fritillary has crossed the A46 from the nearby Cotgrave Forest and judging by the preponderance of "slots" it also has a very healthy deer population.
